In the book, the Gladers create their own words and create a new way of speaking. Their new language had to be one of my favorite things about the book, and made it a lot more interesting. I liked getting to find out how they had come up with the new terms, and what we would use them for in every day life. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThe teenagers in the Glade spend their days working in their assigned areas, even though they have no adult supervision. I believe they are so responsible because they know that if they aren't, no one will be. There is no one there to make sure they survive and they can actually die. It's just them. They have to have order to survive.
Thomas was given information about life in the Glade very slowly so that the story could be longer and so that there was more for him to uncover through his memories. I kind of liked how they left Thomas rather clueless and in the dark, it kept me entertained. It also helped build a lot of suspense. Overall, it makes the story better. -Dakota K
